How to Get Your Ex Girlfriend Back – a Step by Step Guide

Breaking up can break your heart but it doesn’t have to be forever. If you truly believe that you and your ex girlfriend belong together there are a few steps you need to follow if you are to have any hope of turning the relationship around. Getting your ex girlfriend back is not difficult but without a little planning can be a disaster.

1. One of the first things you have to do is cut off communication. This will be very painful for you and will seem like the opposite of what you should be doing. If you really believe that you and your ex girlfriend belong together then this will be just as painful for her. The goal of this step is for her to realize how much she misses and needs you. This is one of the most important steps in the repair process.

2. Take some time for yourself. You have been through an emotional time and need to step back and collect your thoughts. Your ex girlfriend certainly doesn’t need someone who is needy or an emotional mess so get your life together so when the chance arises, your ex girlfriend will see you as a calm and stable person.

3. Slowly start to reach out to her. Drop her an email or text her to keep in touch. Keep the messages casual such as “Hey, what’s up?” You don’t want to jump in and start smothering her with love poetry. Keeping in touch in an easy going way will keep you in her thoughts plus it will let her know that you still think about her. This will help move things along in getting your ex girlfriend back.

4. During the time that the two of you are apart it will help your cause if you remember all the important dates in your ex girlfriends life. Send her a card on her birthday and let her know that you are thinking of her. Your ex girlfriend wants to be treated like a princess and one of the easiest ways for you to do this is by remembering important dates and events in her life.

5. Always look your best. When you know you will be around her, take extra care in your dress. She may not be able to resist you or she may think someone else might not be able to resist you and that may spur her on to rekindle the relationship thinking someone else may become interested in you. Relax, be yourself and take it slowly and the very things that attracted the two of you together in the first place will all come rushing back and soon you will have your ex girlfriend back.

Every break up is different and although most can be repaired, there is no way to know how an ex girlfriend will respond, but if there is any feelings left, following these steps will surely help the relationship.

The steps above are a starting point in mending a broken relationship. Getting back with an ex is a bit more complicated than what is outlined here but it is a good start and will get you well on your way to getting your ex back.

Eulogy Writing Strategies That Never Fail

As if speech writing wasn’t difficult enough already, a eulogy incorporates a snapshot of the essence of a persons life in a single speech. Eulogies can include stories, jokes, quotes, poems, and memorable events about that persons life. There are many different kinds of eulogies and no one of them is right or best – it’s up to you. Just remember to make it personally relevant so that the audience can relate.

1. Where Should You Start?

The trick to writing a great eulogy is to just start writing one – jot down whatever comes to mind as long as it is from the heart. You will be able to sort out your thoughts later in a first draft. You should think about what that person held as important in life, what they chose as their profession, and how they affected the world around them.

2. Set The Theme

In the end, it won’t matter what theme you choose so long as it is done in good taste. The most common themes include a narrative story, a comical outlook upon the life of the deceaced, or even a collection of memories and poems.

3. Make It Memorable

The most essential part of writing a eulogy is to touch upon the life of the deceaced. It isn’t just about how the person has affected you but what that person did to affect others. If you can, try to involve the audience emotionally. Make them smile, make them cry, help them pay their respects for the deceaced and be able to move on with their lives a little easier.

4. Prepare Your Eulogy Well In Advance

Now, mind you, unless you are writing a narrative type of eulogy that goes over the life of the individual chronologically, something that most people are advised not to do anyways because those kinds of eulogies can become quite dull and are often seen as unemotional, you will want to stick to a series of points or stories connected in logical fashion. Be sure to have a first draft of your eulogy proofread by a friend or family member before you move on to writing your final draft.

5. Practice Makes Perfect

Finally, be sure that your eulogy, like any public speaking, has points connected in a logical order. Moreover, because it isn’t just what you say but how you say it. For this reason you will want to practice several times beforehand. Some people feel that memorizing a eulogy is necessary but this isn’t the case. You are free to bring a flash card along to help you remember what you want to say.

RMD-ACTING REMAINS MY GREATEST PASSION

The name Richard Mofe Damijo otherwise known as RMD is a household name in the Nigerian movie industry. Perhaps you would have been wondering why this brilliant actor has not been featuring in movies lately, well the gist is he has moved a ladder higher in his career and has been appointed the Delta State commissioner for Culture.

Before now he was the Special Adviser, on Culture to Delta State Governor, a portfolio received in the arts community as another elevation for one of their own.

The truth is that ever since he joined the state government as culture adviser, RMD has proved his mettle, combined his vast experiences in Arts and Law to deliver service in his State. He had been of immense assistance to many artists and culture-based associations, such that each time the artists look for a possible saviour in government, RMD’s name usually comes among the top five.

He has lately demonstrated his deep concern for the arts through his benevolence to his constituency-National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) aside supporting artistes like Stella Monye as well as the newly discovered comedians through his yearly Made in Warri comic shows.

To his credit, RMD who bagged Best Actor of the year on two occasions said he would forever receive joy and fulfilment from acting, despite his involvement in other vocations.

“Acting gives me fulfilment because that’s what people know me for. Most people won’t ever see me as a lawyer no matter how successful I am at the Bar. They would never want to see me as that because acting is what people consider the work of my hand that God has blessed me with”, explained RMD while disclosing his love and passion for satiric poetry.

On how he’s been able to fare well on stage and screen, the tall, good-looking actor attributed this to his training as a theatre artiste. “I’m passionate about what I do. My training did not stop at the university. I do train myself daily. I always look for the next challenge, I never trained as a journalist, this came along the line and after sometime, I established my PR Company-Whitewater. He is also a promoter who discovers, nurtures and supports talents. He has demonstrated this through the Made in Warri show which he established in 2004.

According to the Delta State born actor, “Made in Warri” is his way of paying back to the society that produced him and also to contribute towards the rehabilitation of the Niger Delta area. His words: “Made in Warri is actually a pilot project for the whole of Niger Delta. Overtime, we shall have to expand it to “Made in Niger Delta”.

Among many films which he featured in, RMD said he would never forget Bridgestone, Violated and of course Out of Bounds which was his first personally produced film. But then, he quickly added that every movie or film comes with its own challenge. He has had opportunities to play diverse roles and he always gets excited whenever he reflects on the variety of roles as a lover, husband, elder, shoemaker and many more.

Born on July 6, 1961, Mofe-Damijo studied at Midwest College, Warri and Anglican Grammar School, Okpara Waterside, in Sapele, in the defunct Bendel State (Now Delta State). He later proceeded to the University of Benin to study Theatre Arts. He graduated in 1983 and shortly after, he started his acting career in Ripples, A TV soap which ran for about eight years. He later featured in another popular soap, Checkmate as Segun Kadiri and has since been a favorite of most soaps and screen shows.

He is also a good cook, a traveller and a poet, but acting on stage remains his greatest passion as it is more challenging to him.

In 1997, RMD enlisted at the University of Lagos to study Law. He is today a qualified lawyer, a top actor and a state commissioner.

What a feat!

Hello From Nova Scotia – Part 19 – Arrival In Halifax And A Stunning Musical Performance – Drum!

Slowly but surely my Nova Scotia discoveries were coming to an end. I only had one evening and one full day left after discovering the South West portion of this province over the last four days, following my last stops along the South Shore in Lunenburg and Peggy’s Cove. As I rolled into town late in the afternoon I noticed the landscape: lots of lakes and waterways interspersed with low-lying hills. One of my first impressions was that many of the neighbourhoods had beautiful houses with well-kept gardens and established trees. Halifax presented itself as a very picturesque city. I did not have a Halifax city map on me, but I figured if I only headed east I’d hit the oceanfront sooner or later, which I did right near Pleasant Point, one of Halifax’ largest public parks. A friendly local gentleman redirected me to downtown Halifax to Barrington Street which is where my abode for two nights, the Delta Barrington Hotel, was located.

With his directions I was able to make my way downtown and had no problem finding my hotel. I breezed through check-in and went upstairs to my room to relax for a bit and take advantage of the in-room high-speed Internet connection. After refreshing myself I was ready for an evening of discoveries and I started to stroll down to the waterfront.

With its strategic location on the Atlantic Ocean, Halifax is the capital of Nova Scotia and Eastern Canada’s most important seaport. With an estimated population of roughly 385,000 residents throughout the metropolitan area, Halifax is Atlantic Canada’s largest population centre and a major economic centre on Canada’s east coast. Major employers include the Department of National Defense (Halifax has had a military role for several centuries due to its strategic location), the Port of Halifax, various government services and private sector companies. Several universities are located here including Dalhousie University, Saint Mary’s University and Mount Saint Vincent University.

Halifax dates back more than two and a half centuries: it was founded in 1749, as the shire town of Halifax County and the provincial capital. It was originally established by the British to provide a counter-balance to the French presence in Quebec and Acadia (present-day New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Cape Breton Island and the Gaspé Peninsula). Today’s Halifax Regional Municipality includes the neighbouring cities of Dartmouth and Bedford since amalgamation in 1996.

The coastline of the Halifax Regional Municipality encompasses about 400 km and is heavily indented with numerous deeps inlets protruding into the countryside. The topography is varied and ranges from lush farmland in the outlying regions to forested rolling hills. The climate is more moderate than in Central Canada and temperatures generally vary between about -5 degrees Celsius in the winter and 23 degrees Celsius in the summer.

Halifax is well-known for its cultural offerings which are enhanced by the large concentration of post-secondary students. Its music scene in particular is very vibrant and in recent years, Halifax has also become an important film production centre. The city itself is the largest growing area in the Maritimes and is connected to the rest of Canada and the world through a major airport. Via Rail’s eastern terminus is located in Halifax.

I headed straight east from my hotel via Duke Street to the waterfront to a complex called “Historic Properties” – a collection of historic buildings that was restored and redeveloped in the early 1970s. Many of the buildings in this complex are former warehouses of the privateers, pirates who were licensed by the British crown to raid enemy vessels. They brought back plentiful bounty that was stored in these warehouses. One of the most famous of these privateers was a fellow name Enos Collins, who started the Halifax Banking Company, the first bank in Nova Scotia.

Right at the foot of Duke Street, next to the Metro Transit Ferry Terminal that takes you over to Dartmouth, I discovered one of Halifax’ treasured icons: Theodore Too is a tugboat modeled after a popular character in a Canadian children’s television show named “Theodore Tugboat”. Today the Theodore Too is available for harbour tours, private charters, birthday parties and school groups.

I headed further south along the waterfront along “Harbourwalk”, Halifax’s famous Waterfront Trail. The sun had already set and the moon was shining over the picturesque Halifax Harbour. My destination was Pier 20, location of the celebrated show “DRUM!”, a musical presentation of Nova Scotia’s four founding cultures. I reached the location about half an hour before show time and people were already lining up in the common areas outside the theatre.

Right around 8 pm I took my seat and fortunately I was located right in the front row on the right side of the stage. The idea behind DRUM! is to shine a light on Nova Scotia’s four principal cultures: Black, Acadian, Aboriginal and Celtic. The evening began with a dramatic performance of aboriginal musicians playing their drums and singing an introductory song in their native Mi’kmaq language.

They were joined by an entire ensemble of musicians, dancers and singers who came on stage to share their music and from that point forward the entire evening was a beautiful carousel of music and song from four different cultures. The sophisticated lighting, video images and narrated poetry underscored the symbolic content of this performance that challenged the senses on every level.

DRUM! was originally conceived as a 45 minute tourism promotion piece as the main stage show at Tall Ships 2000, a special racing event that featured sailing vessels from all over the world. In 2004 DRUM! was turned into a full-length production and performed for ten nights in its specially designed theatre at the Halifax waterfront. The current run of DRUM! in Halifax will be followed by a tour through the United States starting in Florida and finishing in Utah. A tour of Ontario and Saskatchewan will follow in May, and the production will return to the Halifax waterfront in September of 2007.

The performance unfolded as one heart-pumping combination of music, dance, poetry, video, rhythm and song. At one point three of the female performers got up on stage and sang a-capella in the most beautiful harmonies one can imagine. My breath was taken away by their performance. Acadian washboards, Celtic fiddles and bagpipes, Aboriginal drums and sultry black voices came together to celebrate FOUR CULTURES….. FOUR RHYTHMS…..ONE HEART.

The sold-out audience was captivated by these talented performers, the beauty of their music and their message. After the last extended standing ovation I left the theatre elated, moved and inspired, ready for another final day of discoveries in Halifax. DRUM! was breathtaking in its theatrical beauty and its musical performance, and its message still resonates with me. I ended up buying the CD of this production to take this beautiful music and its spirit home with me to Toronto.

Here at Travel and Transitions we celebrate cross-cultural connections and understanding, and DRUM! was as perfect a musical representation of this spirit as I have ever seen. DRUM! communicates a message to the world: “We can hold on to who we are and still share a song, a stage, a country, a world.”

It doesn’t get any better than that….

Examining The Resilience Of Responding To Rejection

Resilience: Use this information to help you develop the ability to recover and adjust easily to the rejection that is a necessary part of your writing life. With this in mind, developing a thick skin to the submission process and rejections can be difficult. Here are some statistics and information that might help to keep things in perspective.

-Cream City receives 300/month, accepts only 6 for each issue.
-Florida Review: 200/month, accepts 4-6 for each issue.
-Gettysburg Review: 350/month, accepts 4-6 for each issue.
-Georgia Review: 300/month, accepts 3-4 for each issue.|
-Hayden’s Ferry Review: 250/month, accepts 5 for each issue.
-Indiana Review: 5,000/year, accepts 50 for each issue.
-Iowa Review: 600/month, accepts 4-6 for each issue.
-Midwest Quarterly: 350/month, accepts 5 for each issue.
-Missouri Review: 400/month, accepts 5-6 for each issue.
-North Dakota: 120/month, accepts 4 for each issue.
-Paris Review: 1,000/month, accepts 5 for each issue.

C.S. Lewis and Ray Bradbury submitted more than 800 manuscripts before they made a sale.
Nabakov was told by one editor that Lolita should be “buried under a large stone.”
F. Scott Fitzgerald was told, “You’d have a decent book if you’d get rid of that Gatsby character.”
Dr. Seuss’s first children’s book was rejected by 23 publishers. The 24th sold 6 million copies.
In 1902, the poetry editor of Atlantic Monthly rejected poems by a 28 year old who took a road less traveled (Robert Frost) and persevered.
You must be thinking, “Yeah, but I’m not C.S. Lewis or Robert Frost.” Ahh, but you have the potential to be. Say you’ve sent your latest group of poems, a book query, or a prose piece to 30 markets, and you’ve only received rejections or light editorial comments. We know you’re frustrated by this, but keep in mind that the acceptance rate is one out of 100.

This means that the piece you are submitting needs to be seen by at least 100 different markets. We know the odds against you seem staggering. Keep in mind that we approach submissions from a marketing perspective. Similar to other sales techniques, you must knock on 100 doors to get one sale. We help you remove the emotion from each rejection.

Considering the response time from editors can range from three to twelve months, you just might be submitting for a year (or sometimes more) before you see an acceptance. This is another reason to make more submissions in a shorter amount of time. We believe (and this is supported by our 11+ years of experience) that each rejection leads you closer to that magic number and acceptance!

The most common mistake writers make is interpreting criticism sent by editors as “never send to us again.” Nothing could be further from truth. If an editor takes his or her time to send you a personal comment, get another submission in the mail to this journal TODAY! Don’t give up! Very often, you need to make three or more submissions to the same editor before your work is accepted. Above all, you need to make extensive and comprehensive submissions.

However, if you’re not sure you can handle it alone or know where to start, consider hiring a partner to help you in your submission process. An Author’s Submission Service may help you take the sting out of each rejection because you’ll be less personally attached to each submission when you have an extensive number of outstanding submissions waiting to be read by editors and agents.

A Mother’s Day Gift That is Alive and Growing!

What are your thoughts as Mother’s Day is fast approaching? Are you wondering how best to show your feelings for your mother on Mother’s Day? What is the perfect gift that can convey your genuine love and care for your mother without giving hints of flattery or appeasement?

You might get overwhelmed by the variety of Mother’s Day gifts that are available in the market. If you are like many others, you would want to gift her with flowers, especially if she is someone who loves flowers. Because of the traditional associations made, the first flower that comes to mind might be carnations! The association between Mother’s Day and Carnations is very strongly embedded in our minds. There is even an early Christian legend according to which carnations are the flowers that sprung up when the tears of the mother of Christ fell on the ground as she saw the sufferings of her son.

Flowers are very popular on Mother’s Day and they are almost indispensable as gifts on the occasion. You could easily get carnations, hyacinths, tulips, and daffodils for her.

OK, if not carnations or any of the other three mentioned above, you could give other flowers like roses and orchids. Or a mix of carnations, orchids, and roses. Are you happy with these? Or do you, like me, feel that these flowers do not make such great gifts because they removed from their natural surroundings?

Without completely discarding traditional notions, consider this question with an open mind: ‘are carnations the best plant and flower related gift you could give your mother?’ In other words, can you give something that is fuller and more organic than mere flowers?

That is where my suggestion gets its relevance. Gift your mother with flowering plants. They are better than mere flowers because of many reasons. They are alive, inspiring, and ecologically more meaningful. Moreover, they give your mother a chance to make her garden richer and more beautiful.

That being the main focus, let us start off with some other Mother’s Day gifts!

Simple and homemade gifts for mom

A very simple and telling way of showing your mother that you care is by doing everything for her on Mother’s Day. Let her relax on her most comfortable chair and read her favorite book and watch television. You could cook her favorite seafood dish or prepare her favorite dessert.

Crafts are a popular gift item for Mother’s Day. You can make them using common things such as paper by following simple instructions. Or you could write a genuine and unaffected letter for her. If you are comfortable with the medium of poetry, you could write her a poem that would delight her.

Jewelry pieces such as bracelets, earrings, necklaces, and rings can make excellent Mother’s Day gifts. In the apparel category, there are some interesting modern trends. A popular Mother’s Day gift these days is a nice T-shirt set for both the mother and the child.

Now we will move to the natural gifts category, the one that includes plants and flowers.

Plants and flowers for mom

Flowering plants being more natural and alive, they should logically make great gifts. It is surprising why they haven’t become very popular as yet.

Flowering plants are novel gift items for Mother’s Day. These are likely to be more-than-welcome gift for a mother who has been getting carnations year after year. They can be given in various types of containers. You could consider gifting them in baskets, pots, and metallic containers.

Undoubtedly, these plants are going to matter a lot to mothers who love gardening. They have the extra charm of being living things as compared to flowers, which are, although attractive, placed out of context because they are plucked out of nature.

If your mother is a lover of gardening, one of the best things you could do to her is to gift her with a pot of flowering plants. The longer the time she spends with the plants, the better she would feel about your gift and the good emotions that inspired you to give her that gift.

You could buy planted flowers from a good online florist. If you just go to their site and search for their Mother’s Day catalog, you would come across some nice planted flowers. You might even gather enough audacity to go beyond the usual carnations and buy plants.

You could get some add-ons too, such as wine, chocolates, and soft toys. Based on your mother’s likes and dislikes, you can decide whether it is appropriate or not.
