If you are capable of loving, you are capable of living. Love is the soul of living, the heartbeat of life. Love is a great meditation. And love does not end in one relationship. Love is an endless phenomenon of relating.
Love appears as relationship but begins in deep solitude. Love expresses as relating but its source is not in relating, its source is in meditating. When you are absolutely happy in your aloneness, when the other is not a need, it is then that you are capable of love. If the other is your need, you can only exploit, manipulate, dominate but cannot love.
Because you depend on the other, possessiveness arises – out of fear. “Who knows? The other is with me today; tomorrow he may not be with me. Who knows about the next moment?” Your woman may have left you, your children may grow up and be gone, your husband might desert you. Who knows what the next moment may bring? Out of that fear of the future, you become very possessive. You create bondage around the person you think you love.
But love cannot create a prison. If love creates a prison, then what is left for hatred to do? Love brings freedom – love gives freedom. It is non-possessiveness. But that is possible only if you have known a totally different quality of love, one not of need but of sharing.
Love is sharing of overflowing joy. You are too full of joy, you cannot contain it, you have to share it. Then there is poetry and then there is something tremendously beautiful which is not of this world, something that comes from the beyond.
Often I say, learn the art of love. What I really mean is: learn the art of removing all that hinders love. It is a negative process. It is like digging a well – you go on removing layers of earth, stones, rocks and then suddenly there is water. The water that was always there as an undercurrent. When you remove all barriers, the water is available. So with love. Love is the undercurrent of your being. It is flowing, but there are many rocks, much earth to be removed. That’s what I mean when I say: learn the art of love. It is really not learning love but un-learning the ways of un-love.

The Center of the Heart By Arthur Dobrin
Some things are so beautiful,to hold them is to bring the sun to the center of the heart, these things on the tounge of the pages i hold these things in the eye of the spinning earth. These things once said are again and agian Persimmon, rose, and cinnabar. Some things are so beautiful to hold them is to die.
What does this poem mean, what is the author trying tell us, and what does this poem mean to you?
i think what the poet is trying to say is that some things hold so much beauty, that just to touch them or experience them brings happiness. i think it is just expressing the wonderful things in the world and that we long to hold them, giving examples of a fruit, flower, and mineral.

I love poetry, but I am not a very good writer. Any tips on how to write good poetry?
The best thing you can do to help your own writing is read lots of good poetry. Read the great poets of the past, and read a wide variety of the poetry being published today. Don’t read just one kind of poetry. Stretch your imagination by reading both formal verse (poetry that uses rhyme and meter) and free verse. You’ll be amazed how much your own writing improves as you expose yourself to the work of more experienced poets.
A couple of things you’ll notice about good poetry:
Concrete images are better than abstractions. Instead of making statements about "love," "life," "truth," "justice," and so on, write about things that readers can see, hear, touch, taste, and smell.
Specific details are better than vague generalizations. Don’t just tell your readers that a person is smart, brave, kind, etc.; show those traits in action. Don’t just say that a scene is beautiful or peaceful or scary or whatever; give details that let the readers experience for themselves what it’s like.

The Evolution of Classical Satire Into Modern Day Political Humor

Satire, as defined by the Britanica Concise Encyclopedia, is an artistic form in which human or individual vices, folly, abuses, or shortcomings are held up to censure by means of irony, ridicule, or other methods, sometimes with an intent to bring about improvement. Literature and drama are its chief means of expression, but it is also found in other forms of media such as film, the visual arts, and political cartoons. Satires had been present in Greek Literature, with Aristophanes as well as in Roman Literature with Juvenal and Horace. Juvenal and Horace’s satires have since then developed according to their perspectives. To Horace, the satirist is a refined man who sees stupidity and insanity everywhere, but is moved to gentle laughter rather than to rage. To Juvenal, on the other hand, the satirist is a respectable man who is horrified and angered by corruption. Horace’s satires are friendlier in tone, thus containing no dangerous attacks against powerful individuals or serious vices. Juvenal’s satires, however, are bitter accusations of the vice and folly of his own times that include most men and all women.
The Elizabethan Period proved to be the Golden Age of Satire as satirists like Voltaire, Jonathan Swift and Daniel Defoe wrote works that were more direct and straightforward, leaving little room for subtle irony. In Voltaire’s Candide, he showed how having a ridiculously positive outlook on life will still lead to a life with numerable tragedies. Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels, exposed the cruelty of humanity, and Daniel Defoe’s Jure Divino, the writer made an elaborate and learned attack on theories of the ‘divine right’ of monarchs.
Through the years, satire developed into many forms: the Persian satire, the Elizabethan satire the Anglo-American satire, the 18th, 19th and 20th century satire to name a few. Different satires have developed due to the fact that these satires are responses to the issues present in their period. What started out as poems, books and novels developed in plays, adjusting to the changing times and interests of the public. Similarly, the satires of today’s modern world had developed into political humor, as more people can relate to the issue in this medium.
Political humor is best compared to satire rather than to parody, which is only concerned with mocking an original work. Political humor seems to have developed from Horace’s satires: amusing is but still able to address the issue at hand. Political humor should not be taken as a personal attack against a politician, but rather as an unsolicited advice from an observer. Satire is, after all, developed with the intent of bringing about improvement, and political humor seems to have developed from this literary genre. Politicians who yet to become objects of political humor should not fret about being in the spotlight. According to Maureen Dowd, a columnist at the New York Times, Republican Presidential candidate Barack Obama has not been the object of any political joke by American comedians mainly because “he’s very hard to mock”. He has kept an honest image and he has remained focused and serious in his work. With that kind of attitude, any politician can escape satirical political humor.

Mobile phones have become one of the most prominent status symbols. It has gone beyond a mere tool to make and receive calls. It’s an expression of identity; a fashion statement; and with Mp3 ringtones, a way of injecting your own groove into your daily grind.
An Mp3 is a compressed audio file. For years, music lovers have exchanged these files on the Internet, playing them on their PCs or from dedicated Mp3 players. But then the mobile phone companies latched on to a brilliant idea: why not use those music files as ringtones, replacing the dull and sometimes annoying clanging sound that has been the trademark alert for incoming calls.
There is a wide variety of Mp3 ringtones, as wide as the range of music itself. From Mozart to Madonna, the Beatles to Britney Spears, or even commercial jingles, national anthems, cartoon themes, gospel music, nursery rhymes, even beat poetry. If you’ve ever hummed it, sang it, or tapped your feet to it, there’s an Mp3 version waiting to be played on your phone.
Mp3 ringtones can also be a good measure of how a movie or a sitcom has infiltrated into pop culture. There are ringtones that are actually snippets from famous scenes of Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings; while themes from The Brady Bunch bring smiles to anyone who has ever watched the show.

All these ringtones are easily downloadable, but for those who truly want a unique sound they can even make their own ringtones. Some record the voices of their children. Others save romantic missives from a loved one. People also record the laughter of friends, or a fragment from a child’s Christmas performance, or even a beloved pet’s barking. While other people may not appreciate the Mp3, the fact that it has a personal meaning makes those ringtones music to the owners’ ears.
So why do people use Mp3 ringtones? The same reason they pick the shirt they are wearing: it reflects the owners’ personality. When they say my phone, they mean it in more ways than one. Sociologists say that people are driven to express identities in external symbols. It is part of our communal nature: this is me, this is the group I belong to. Primitive societies wore jewelry beads and animal teeth; some developed tattoos; and later on, developed clothes and other accessories. The phone is no different. Like feathers on a tribesman cap, it signals to everyone else who we are.
