At the beginning …
At the beginning it’s so strange to see jack so much uncomfortable, keep on looking on the floor and not Steeve Allen. As a frenchy from Quebec, he just remember me the generation of my grand father who had dificulty for communication and a strong inferiority complexe.
this isn’t just a …
this isn’t just a reading, it is a musical performance
Well, Steve Allen …
Well, Steve Allen wasn’t really funny. BUT he was smart, hip, goofy (in an entertaining way), and put people like Kerouac, Lenny Bruce, Dylan, and others on national television and gave them valuable exposure early on. So give credit where it’s due.
steve allen’s joke …
steve allen’s joke which reversed what kerouac said, was not funny.
Great to see jack …
Great to see jack again, read all his books about 25-30 years ago.
Your still the man Jack..

Steve Allen played some very good piano!
Your welcome Zebra, …
Your welcome Zebra, I’m glad to have been some help.
On The Road was …
On The Road was writen off of his friends so Dean Moriarty is based off of Neal Cassady, and in the original version, he hadn’t changed the names and hen later on changed all the names. in the original version, Sal was actually Jack Kerouac.
This is 8 months …
This is 8 months overdue, but thank you so much, this has puzzled me ever since I picked up the book
Disagree, the piano …
Disagree, the piano and his voice compliment each other in a really magical way
I’d look to see if …
I’d look to see if this has already been asked, but it would be sort of a pain to sift through 224 comments I guess; In my copy of On the Road, the person he calls “Dean Moriarty” in this video, he instead calls, “Neal Cassady” anybody know what’s up with that?
this isn’t corny at …
this isn’t corny at all. the music complements kerouac’s reading very nicely.
I think its …
I think its intended to recreate the kind of ambience you might get having a conversation in a bar or restaurant. It increases the intimacy between the listener and the artist. It seems corny but they still do it in movies and tv to this day. Just with better music
this is so …
this is so corny but i guess it has to be viewed in the context of its time. Steve Allen playing his cliche piano licks trying to sound smart. No surprise that Kerouac had to be drunk usually to answer these dumb-ass questions. Makes me cringe just to listen. Don’t ask artists anything-just take the in and make of it what you can.
I remember watching …
)
I remember watching this in the early 90s and being so blown away… loved the piano / spoken word combo… still do!
I’ve seen and heard …
I’ve seen and heard several Kerouac interviews and this is by far the best. Not only due to Steve Allen (tho it helps) but because JK seems to be sober. In later years his public appearances were drunken disasters; treasure this one!
My Lord that is …
My Lord that is smooth! He was a great writer, but also an excellent reader/speaker!
I can barely tell when he switches between reading and speakin,(if it wasnt cus i recognized the words)

So, I’m pretty sure …
So, I’m pretty sure that would make you first cousins twice removed technically. That’s pretty cool.
