Giving Custom Poetry As A Gift

It is often a quandary what to give a person for a special occasion. Many people go out to stores on the hunt for a perfect gift that sends the right message and come home disappointed. Giving somebody a poem would be an inspired choice. There are various companies which specialize in writing specially ordered poems. What gift givers do not realize is the many different situations in which they could present this custom poetry to someone special.

Going out to the stores to find something special to give a person can be frustrating. Everybody wants their gift to be unique. And, they want it to have deep emotional meaning. These are not often easy things to find. But, those who are looking may not have the ability to make their own presents. A very different idea in this situation might be to buy an individually written poem.

There are many sites online which can write poems for any gift giving situation. Usually, these places offer samples of their work so that the potential customer has an idea of what they will be getting. Also, some of these sites offer keepsake gifts that feature the poem that is written.

Giving a special verse can make for a very special birthday present. But, that is not the only special day in a person’s life that can be marked with them. A few personal lines about a couple can be perfect for an anniversary celebration. Plus, they can be given at bar mitzvahs and weddings.

Uses for written verse can also include moments when one needs to give a speech. An example would be when someone is retiring after a distinguished career. They can also serve as written vows in a marriage ceremony.

Whatever the event might be in a person’s life, custom poetry makes for an original gift. It can express the givers feelings for the receiver in ways that many items bought at a store can not. It is a present with capabilities of being cherished for life.

National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellowships in Poetry

The National Endowment of the Arts, also known as NEA, is an independent agency of the United States federal government that provides support and financial help to projects exhibiting artistic excellence.

The efforts of the NEA revolves around the achievement of their mission which is to become “dedicated to supporting excellence in the arts, both new and established; bringing the arts to all Americans; and providing leadership in arts education”.

In keeping with this mission, the National Endowment for the Arts has been running the Literature Fellowship Program in Poetry.

The Literature Fellowship program will offer $25,000 grants in poetry to published creative writers that are competent at writing literary pieces, conduct research, travel, and work on general career advancement activities.

The fellowship program will last for a year and applicants will be reviewed anonymously, meaning the review panel will not know who the applicant is but will only base their judgment of his/her literary pieces.

The NEA has stressed that they will no longer be entertaining applications from individuals who:

a) Have previously received two or more Literature Fellowships in fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry or Translation Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts.

b) Have received any Literature Fellowship in fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry or Translation Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts within the past ten years.

c) Are engaging in the field of news reporting.

d) Are engaging in scholarly writing.

e) Are working towards acquiring academic degrees.

Eligible creative writers are required to send their applications electronically at the Grants.gov website.

Creative writers will be qualified to take part in the poetry fellowship program if they fulfill the following requirements:

a) Have published a volume of 48 or more pages of poetry between January 1, 2005, and March 1, 2012.

b) Have published twenty or more different poems or pages of poetry in five or more literary journals, anthologies, or publications between January 1, 2005, and March 1, 2012.

The Literature Fellowship Program is important to the National Endowment of the Arts since it is very much in line with their overall agency mission and it also enables them to support writers who have the potential to accomplish artistic excellence but are lacking in funds and finances.

What You Can Do With Custom Poetry

Custom poetry provides you a means of making a unique gift for a special person. Whether you write it for a wedding, a birthday, anniversaries and any other occasion, words never fail to help you express your sentiments. Let commercial writers provide you this service if you think you find it difficult to string words together.

The thing is, it can be pretty difficult to put one’s emotions through words. Perhaps, you have random or solid thoughts running through your head but you just don’t know what language you can use to put them on paper. Thus, it would help to let a professional writer deal with it.

All you have to do is give information regarding the event to be celebrated. It would also help to provide some hints about the recipient of the gift for the poem to be more personalized. Let your feelings out as you discuss this with the writer and he will take charge in making the whole thing for you.

You can decide as to the style of language to be used, whether you prefer couplet, sonnet, free verse or limerick. You can also choose a mood or tone to convey, whether you want the poem to sound nostalgic, humorous, sincere or sarcastic.

Indeed, it is important for both the writer and the client to work together so that the right string of words can be formed. This is an essential factor for developing customer satisfaction in the end. The writer will send a draft most likely by email so that the client can read the poem ahead and make corrections after it was done.

For other services or writers who are willing to go a little further, they not only email drafts but also embellish, frame and ship the material to the recipient. But if clients prefer giving the item personally, they can always just take care of these tasks themselves.

Indeed, custom poetry offers you a chance to convey your emotions in a more unique way. But if you are too busy to scribble down a few words, you can always ask for commercial help. Just make sure the writer can provide you with the best samples and experience proof to guarantee quality.

Gargoyle Sculptures Attract Attention From Art Lovers

Gargoyle sculptures lined-up on ancient buildings are menacing but practical. They act as drain spouts atop cathedrals and other medieval structures. Modern versions do not have to perform any kind of task, but they will add a touch of gothic character to any landscape.

Many artists continue to draw from medieval ideas when constructing contemporary gargoyles. Their media differ from those of ancient artists, however. While stone and wood were available hundreds of years ago, resin is a modern invention. The addition of lights set somewhere within a design makes a statue useful as well as stunning. A customer could buy one to light his front porch and scare-off burglars at the same time.

Medieval styles combine human, animalistic, and mythological characteristics to form grotesque creatures. They seem not to belong anywhere except in exile atop very tall buildings. Artists are working with stone, wood, resin, and bronze.

Consumers might find their attention drawn to the very human expressions clever creators have established in the eyes and mouths of gargoyles. They can make something inanimate look capable of pure evil. When wings, horns, and claws are added, these augment the suggestion that mischief is on the mind of a demonic figure. His mind appears to be working behind a facade of stone.

Perhaps a dragon is less frightening because its shape comes from fairy tales. Lizard-like scales, wings belong on one of these flying reptiles. When a dragon is represented preparing to fly, however, customers should note the skill with which an artist suggests movement and life in his inanimate statue.

One element of genius attributed to the best artists is their ability to suggest movement in an immobile item. By arranging limbs carefully and having muscles flex in appropriate ways, they can make a dragon seem ready to fly or pounce. A cute cat-like figure might rest in a peaceful but alert posture, his rear end down and the tail wrapped serenely about his torso.

Statues are sometimes sitting erect and proud. Others look as though they might pounce at any minute. Their muscles flex realistically and fangs are sharp, ready for a decisive kill. A design might show a dragon or other figure holding some kind of burden and his legs could be chained. When gargoyle sculptures are created to climb, the artist has an excuse to really expose talons, spreading fingers wide to demonstrate their potential to cause lethal damage. Gargoyle Sculptures And Modern Culture

For centuries now, gargoyle sculptures have fascinated the public mind. These hideous carved creatures come in all manner of body mixtures, from human to animal. Gracing a myriad of doorways, graveyards and churches, these abominable statues, traditionally, protected from deterioration, the architecture they inhabited. But, in our modern times, their practical use has transformed into the symbolic, the commercial and the artistic.

Someone gargling water is what one may think of when passing by a traditional gargoyle. Hence, one of the meanings of name, gargoyle, is just that, gargling. It is easy, then, to ascertain that gargoyles were originally for dealing with rainfall and other moisture, as a part of artful drainage systems. Thus, reducing the damage done to buildings by erosive elements.

Superstitions surrounded the statues as a result of their grotesque appearance. Hosts of lion-bodied birds and dragon-bodied, beak-nosed humans, to name a few, were believed to ward off demonic forces. Driving off would-be desecrators and thieves was thought to be a function of these monstrous sculptures as well.

However, in these modern times, gargoyles have become the objects of more decorative, rather than functional use. The statues have been replicated as for gardens, walkways and in-home furnishings to name a few. It has even gone so far as to make it into novelty jewelry and stylized graphic shirts. As with common use, the more frightening elements of these ornamental sculptures have reduced to historical memory.

In the modern gothic sub-culture, gargoyles have discovered a home. With interest in the darker areas of the human psyche, gargoyles have become a valued symbol to this genre because of their history in and around religious and taboo locals. Affiliation with complex subjects like death and God, have only served to further entice the gothic interest in these frightening statues. But, their superstitious ancestry has almost disappeared into the annals of antiquity.

Obviously, none of the above mentioned stops the juggernaut of capitalization. If there is a market for it, some entrepreneurial spirit will likely attempt to make a quick buck. So, it is of no surprise that gargoyles have not escaped this fact, since many a self-identified gothic culture-lover has found a taste for these disturbing, three-dimensional depictions.

Lurking about, gargoyles can be found in many a place. As they subtly accent our personal decor, perhaps, they may, even, still encourage demons to run away. Once can only hope. Read more about: Gargoyle Sculptures
